SFX – March 2020
How could we not celebrate the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: Voyager? My favourite Star Trek series – to date anyway — and favourite captain, and it shares a birth year with SFX. That, and catching up with
my favourite part-Borg, part-human with Seven of Nine’s return to Star Trek; picard… Well, it just seemed like fate!
I was obsessed when Voyager first aired and a recent rewatch Of all 172 episodes has done nothing to change that. I always felt there was more at stake in this series, and the fact that they were lost — with the myriad of problems that presented them — added an extra level Of drama. Nothing was ever really safe in Voyager, and that made things more desperate at times — meaning they’d often go to extra lengths to do whatever was necessary to protect their crew.
But I know now, a quarter of a century later, that their journey also touched a great number Of people all over the world. so we caught up with a number Of the crew — on- and off-screen — to see what it all meant to them, and to raise a glass to the journey. No. you’ve got something in your eye. Now. we’re going to need more coffee to finish the next issue, so while you get stuck into the ridiculous amount of brilliant things we’ve crammed into this one, we’ll just set course for the nearest nebula.„
