Sew Magazine – December 2019
Although we typically think of January as the time for new beginnings, we simply couldn’t wait to get a head start here at Sew HQ, and so we welcome three exciting launches!
First up is our brand-new Pattern on Test feature that sees our dressmakers put the latest indie designs through their paces, with exclusive hacks, tips and discounts along the way (p23).
The Great British Sewing Bee winner Juliet Uzor joins the fold with her new column on page 29, where she’ll be sharing what she’s been up to since taking the title as Britain’s best home sewer. Last but by no means least, our Dressmaker of the Year 2020 competition is back, bigger and better than ever before — take a glimpse at the freebies and our bumper roster of judges on page 36.
This month we’ve got a whole host of brand-new patterns for you to get stitching, too. Dip your toes into using New Look 6581, or sewing with stretch knits get creative with 6347 that includes five one-hour dresses. You’ll also have the chance to make a fur gilet for nippy days (p26) and a Liberty print blouse to wear all year-round (p38). Plus, you can accessorise your look with our Kelly bag (p46) and leopard print belt (p45).
Finally, we are all about time-saving as the clock ticks down to the big day, so w€ve also lined up plenty of quick-stitch projects to help you achieve the perfect handmade Christmas. Store pressies in Susie Johns’ Santa sack on page 48, tuck choccie treats into an advent calendar (p54), and make our adorable Nordic gnomes on page 56 to add a festive flourish to the mantlepiece.
